Andrew Reed - the Artist
Andrew was born in Fitzrovia, London and grew up in Hertfordshire. After successfully obtaining a degree in Estate Management he spent 7 years in Devon before moving to South West London and then returning to Hertfordshire. He has enjoyed a talent for painting and drawing from a very young age and his prize winning began at prep school.
Inspired by the dynamic curves of racing cars and colours in horse racing, Andrew's art work has developed and enjoyed much attention and appreciation.
As a young man Andrew was drawn to architecture and technical drawing which led him to draw for estate agents and accept commissions from homeowners. Whilst Andrew worked in south west London he began to create ink line drawings of people's houses which he put through letter boxes to market his talent and won freelance work drawing for estate agents doing adverts and later wedding invitations and the like. Art then took a backseat for a while and on a visit to an art exhibition in Hertfordshire Andrew was inspired to paint again.
'Self taught; apart from Art A level. I have been drawing and painting for more than 25 years now and have sold many pieces as well as receiving commissions. In recent years I have specialised in horses and race cars and the bright vibrant colours seem to win favour with customers. I continue to enjoy an active interest in motor racing both competing and watching which was born out of my enthusiasm to draw and paint racing cars.'
His technique is to draw in pencil first before adding dark shades followed by the vibrant colours for which he is well known. Precision highlighting from reflected direct and indirect light gives the picture a lift bringing it to life and adding dimension. Final touches include adding rolling shadow which further develops the dimension.
A member of Kinsbourne Art Society since 2012 he now lives in Hertfordshire and enjoys walking his Labrador, golf and tennis and painting in between running his own retail property consultancy, racing cars and adventure motorbiking and skiing holidays.
